About Savannahs

 cat

In America in the 1980's a Bengal breeder called Judee Frank attempted to breed a Serval Tiger to a domestic shorthair cat. A Serval was chosen for its unique looking coat and its outgoing personality. Judy produced one female from the litter, she was called Miracle then changed her name to Savannah. Savannah went on to produce the first recorded Savannah litters.

In the 1990's a breeder called Joyce Sroufe became successful in breeding Savannahs, which encouraged more breeders to embrace her vision and work towards fertile generations of males to be used with the Savannah females. Males are only guaranteed fertile from the fifth generation onwards.

In 2003 we were one of the first catteries to import a Savannah into the UK. Since then more breeders in the UK have become interested in breeding these amazing cats.
